Book Review: The Last Knight- Nicola S. Dorrington

Title:  The Last Knight
Publisher/Year: Self published/2013
Genre:  Fantasy, Young Adult, Mythology, Supernatural
Format:  ePub for free in exchange for an honest review

The Juicy Stuff:
Like any teenage girl, Cara Page dreams of the future, the difference is, every day those dreams come true.

Now she's dreaming of a boy, and a future that can't be real. Because if it is, then everything she thought was myth and legend is actually true, and there is an evil coming that will tear the country apart.

Lance Filwer is a boy with secrets of his own, and a past full of mistakes he can't undo. Cara is his second chance, his chance to succeed where he failed before - if only she'll trust him enough to let him help her.

Cara needs to know what's happening, but the answer lies in a long forgotten past, and an ancient legend. To find it Cara will have to travel into the depths of Wales, and the heart of ancient Britain.

With Wraiths, creatures from the darkest of myths, dogging her every move, Cara knows it's only a matter of time before they catch up with her. And myth or not, they will kill her.

Her only hope is Lance, and the birth right she must claim, if she is to prevent the future she has foreseen.

How It Made Me Feel:
I received this ePub for free from All About YA and the author, on Gooreads in exchange for an honest review.

Are you ready to take off on an adventure spanning the medieval times of King Arthur and the current times of Great Britain and Wales complete with supernatural creatures and wizards?  This book is a great adaptation of a time told story.  It's a new take on the King Arthur story complete with some of your favorite characters in a completely different light.  I loved the different approach this novel took.  I wasn't even aware until I read a little further into the story, that it was even related to King Arthur's court!

The storyline is full of action, adventure, magic, time travel, and even some romance!  Who can say no to that!  I loved the current take on some of the well known characters.  It gave me a different insight to the King Arthur story that I rather enjoyed.  The book was easy to read and definitely kept my attention until the very end.  It was high action and full of witty commentary from the characters that were easy to relate to and very believable.  I can easily see myself reading more from this author!

UGH! And don't even get me started on Lance!  Yeah.  I can admit that I have a fictional boy crush.  The dark curly hair and the blue eyes, his personality and want to protect Cara.  I fell. I fell hard. Haha!  But seriously.  I hope there is a sequel in the works!!

What I Thought Worked:
I love it when books that take place in Great Britain/United Kingdom, use the British spelling in the books.  Granted, our author is an English ex-pat, but I love seeing the words and the different lingo they use in their everyday conversation.  It's different for me and I appreciate it.

What I Thought Didn't Work:
I'm going to be selfish here and say that I want a sequel. Haha!  I didn't want the book to end.  Which is cliche, I know.  But that doesn't change the fact that it was way too short! I just wanted to keep reading and keep reading.

Rating
5/5

Why It Got That Rating:
This is a book I want to buy a physical copy of and put it on my bookshelf forever.  I want to be able to visit this world whenever I want and rereading this book is the perfect way to do so!

Who Would I Recommend To:
I would recommend to anyone who loves King Arthur stories, young adult romance, characters who are easy to relate to, or someone who is looking for a book with some time travel!
